PT-141 activates melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system, which are involved in sexual desire. This is a different mechanism from the erectile dysfunction medications that work on blood flow, which is why it is considered when desire rather than mechanics is the issue.
Bremelanotide is FDA-approved under the brand name Vyleesi for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. Other uses, and compounded formulations, are off-label and not FDA-approved. Your clinician decides whether it is appropriate for you.
